If you're going to try just one baking trend this year, make it this one.

Brown butter is pure magic. It takes about five minutes, requires zero special equipment, and completely transforms whatever you're baking. We're talking a rich, nutty, almost caramel-like depth that regular melted butter just can't touch.

The secret? You're essentially toasting the milk solids in the butter until they turn golden and fragrant. The result smells like toasted hazelnuts and tastes like a bakery upgrade you didn't know you needed.

How to brown butter (it's easier than you think):

  1. Place butter in saucepan over medium-low heat
  2. Let it melt, then foam — keep stirring gently, for about 6 minutes, mine took 8 minutes.
  3. Watch for golden-brown bits forming at the bottom and a nutty aroma
  4. Remove from heat, weight the butter to make sure you have the right amount and immediately add the mix in to melt the chocolate mix.

Brown Butter Brownie Pie — Ingredients:

  • 1 Carolina's Chocolate Fudge Gourmet Brownie Mix
  • 120g unsalted butter (browned! - Start with 125g and if you have leftovers, you can spread on your toast while you wait for your brownie to bake.)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 60g unbleached flour

Directions:

Brown your butter using the method above. Mix it into the brownie mix and follow the package instructions. Pour into the 8" compostable pie plate that comes with your mix and bake until set, about 25 minutes. The brown butter adds a layer of flavour that makes this pie absolutely unforgettable.
